Ms. Amanda

Ms. Amanda’s two decades of teaching experience have instilled in her a dedication to life-long learning which she passionately shares with her students. As an educator, it is her privilege to impact future generations with the gifts of knowledge, self-expression, and compassion. Her love of teaching is evident in her joyful interactions with her students.
Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education as well as a Master of Education degree in Educational Development and Supervision. She is also certified to teach English as a Second Language. Amanda believes that writing inspires children to express, challenge, and refine their thought processes which paves the way for future success. She is devoted to making each child feel valued and encouraged while continuously moving towards mastery in writing and communication.
Ms. Amy

Ms. Amy has 26 years of experience teaching high school in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. She holds a Master of Science degree in Education, (Teacher Leadership) from Johns Hopkins University and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University. Ms. Amy has taught Advanced Placement Psychology for 20 years. The majority of her classes at Writing Symphony are high school level classes and focus on skills needed for success in higher education. She loves working with students to improve their self-confidence, writing skills, and communication skills. She works to build strong relationships with her students that encourage personal growth, and in turn develop strong writing and reading competencies.
Ms. Christina
Dr. Dan

Dr. Dan Barber is a native of Massachusetts and graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Psychology and English from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). Dr. Barber went on to complete his Masters Degree in Education at Tufts University in Boston; he earned his Ed. D. from Northeastern University. He moved to Charlotte in 2004 and taught in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools for 11 years. Dr. Barber was an Instructional Facilitator at H.H. Beam for one year and has been an Assistant Principal and Principal for the last six years. He has six(!) daughters (ranging in age from 20 to 5). Dr. Barber was named Gaston County School's Assistant Principal of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year and is a finalist for the Gaston Gazette's Best Principal for the 2021-2022 school year. His hobbies include reading, biking, following the Boston Red Sox and, of course, spending time with his family. He is very excited to be a part of the Writing Symphony family!
Ms. Elyse

Ms. Elyse has a passion for personalized learning and helping ALL students surpass their goals. Ms. Elyse has 15 years of experience as an educator. During this time, she has taught students of all levels including those who possess unique exceptionalities. She has a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Coastal Carolina University and a MA in Educational Leadership from University of West Florida. On top of this she also holds endorsements in Reading, ESOL, and Gifted Education. Ms. Elyse believes that every child will be successful if they are supported in the right way. She is passionate about helping others find a love for learning and writing. Ensuring that her lessons are student centered, engaging, and that each child feels safe enough to take risks are a few of the ways that Ms. Elyse is able to ensure each student makes growth toward their goals. While achieving their goals is always a measure that she is working towards, Ms, Elyse prides herself on making learning and writing fun. The more her students enjoy the activity the more willing they will be to take risks and express themselves in new ways. These experiences along with the skills they develop will set them up for a lifetime of success. Watching their joy and thirst for more makes every lesson better than the last.
Ms. Frances

Ms. Frances DeWitt graduated from University of Nevada, Reno, with a major in Secondary Education, English, and a minor in TESOL. She taught English Language Arts in Nevada for 27 years: 17 years teaching middle school ELA, eight years as a TESOL instructor in charge of five schools, and two years as a high school English instructor. She also taught entry level English courses as an adjunct writing teacher at Great Basin College. When teaching middle school ELA, she was passionate about facilitating socialized debates and Socratic seminars in the classroom and listening to students discuss the readings amongst their peers. She is passionate about WWII and Holocaust literature. She has enjoyed participating in three summer National Writing Projects, and was a former scorer for the Nevada state writing proficiency tests. Ms. Frances grew up on a ranch in northern California and has always loved photography, reading, and being outside in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. She is currently taking an online course in becoming a children’s writer.
Ms. Jenna

With over 14 years of teaching experience, Ms. Jenna has taught primary and middle school language arts in the traditional school setting and tutored students in writing to prepare for state testing. Along with her experience in the classroom, Ms. Jenna also headed a writing committee for schoolwide language arts improvement. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Intermediate Education with a Mild Intervention endorsement and an Indiana teaching certificate with an Early Literacy Endorsement. Ms. Jenna finds joy in encouraging learners of all ages to discover their individual writing style and hopes to instill in her students a passion for communicating their ideas through writing.
Ms. Jessica

For more than a decade, Ms. Jessica has taught secondary English Language Arts, both in-person and through online learning platforms. In addition to traditional English courses, Ms. Jessica has taught Mythology, ACT prep, and Dystopian Literature (a course she created for the English department at her school.) She has also worked with administration and guidance to facilitate college planning events for high school juniors and held positions on multiple school-level curriculum and program creation committees. Ms. Jessica holds a bachelor's degree in English with minors in History and Education as well as a master's degree in Library Science. While her content area is English, Ms. Jessica's passion is working with students to refine their reading and writing proficiency while helping students build confidence in their own potential and abilities inside and outside the classroom.
Ms. Krista

Ms. Krista is an enthusiastic and caring educator with over 8 years of experience teaching and tutoring English language arts online. She has experience working with students ranging in age from early childhood through college using a wide range of virtual learning platforms and educational technologies. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Roosevelt University and her professional educator license (PEL) in elementary education with an endorsement in language arts from Northeastern Illinois University. Ms. Krista enjoys teaching creative writing, essay writing, and grammar concepts and is passionate about helping students develop their own love of writing. Ms. Krista resides in the Chicago suburbs with her husband, two children, cats, and dog. She loves spending time with her family, homeschooling her children, reading, writing, and sewing. She is excited to be a part of Writing Symphony!
Ms. Kristi

Ms. Kristi is a passionate and innovative educator with experience and certifications in both elementary and high school English Language Arts. She focuses her instruction on writing strategies to strengthen students’ creativity, confidence, and writing structure. Her innovative and creative lessons promote student engagement and retention of concepts. She is passionate about bridging learning gaps to strengthen current and future concepts. She graduated from Troy University in Troy, AL with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. She also obtained two Master’s degress from the University of West Alabama in Elementary Education and Instructional Leadership and has a certificate endorsement for Secondary English Language Arts. She currently teaches high school English Language Arts in Alabama and serves as her school’s Instructional Coach. She recived the Elementary Teacher of the Year award for her local school as well as her district in 2020-2021. Ms. Kristi resides in Alabama with her husband, two daughters, and four Boykin Spaniels. She enjoys working on their farm, traveling, camping, and spending time with her family.
Ms. Lisa

Ms. Lisa has over seven years of teaching experience. She taught 3rd-5th grade at Lackland Airforce Base in Texas for two years, and she has been teaching virtually for the past five years. Ms. Lisa has taught History, Science, Math, and Reading; however, she is most passionate about teaching writing. Ms. Lisa sees writing as not only a necessary tool for life but also as a beautiful art that everyone can master with practice. She not only loves teaching writing, but is also an aspiring author of children’s books. Ms. Lisa has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education and Reading. She is also certified in English as a second language, and has a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching.
